Elderberry Syrup Recipe

I am beyond delighted to share my quick and easy Elderberry Syrup Recipe with you. I believe that plants and the natural world guide and support our prosperity, abundance, joy, and vitality. So if you’re new to working with plants for your wellness, this recipe is a great place to start.

Elderberries have many health benefits and are known to support your immune system to prevent illness, offer relief from cold, flu and allergy symptoms, and promote an overall faster recovery when you are feeling under the weather.

In this blog post, I’m sharing how to make quick and easy, homemade elderberry syrup recipe using dried elderberries. You can use fresh elderberries to make elderberry syrup, however historically it’s been easier for me to purchase high quality, dried elderberries and this way I have the ingredients on hand in my pantry at all times.

I did plant a few elderberry shrubs on our farm in 2020, but our 24 year old Sulcata Tortoise, Shelby plowed them all down one by one marching around the property. 😑 I’m going to plant a few more down the road and see if I can get elderberry to survive Shelby and grow for me. I know that elderberry grows well in SW Florida.

Here’s a fun fact – Elderberry Syrup is the most popular herbal cold remedy in Europe – and if you happen to be someone who has to pinch their nose to swallow medicine, Elderberry Syrup is delicious.

The Power and Magic Of Plants

As an Herbalist, I know firsthand that there is powerful wisdom and magic in plants, and I seriously want that wisdom and magic in your life especially if you think you’re terrible with plants!

Yes, over the years, I have spoken with so many folks about working with herbs and plants for their wellness needs and there seems to be a (limiting) belief around needing to be good with growing houseplants or gardens in order to work with plants for you and your family’s wellness.

This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

The great thing about Herbalism is that you can purchase high quality, responsibly grown and wild-crafted herbs for your preparations!

The Power and Magic Of Crystals

Crystals have been used for centuries to help people tap into their spiritual self. Crystals are said to possess powerful energy that can be used for healing, protection, and to enhance the user’s intuition.

Millions of people around the world believe in their power, and many use them in rituals or meditations to unlock a deeper level of consciousness. Whether it’s amethyst for calming one’s nerves or rose quartz for attracting love, crystals are believed to possess magical powers that can be used to manifest positive changes in life. I have heard that some people worry about working with crystals due to religious reasons – my belief is that God made crystals.

Crystals are natural stones that are formed in nature, and who created nature?

Why I Use Crystal Quartz In My Elderberry Syrup Recipe

Crystal quartz is a powerful healing crystal known for its ability to amplify energy. It is often used in meditation and healing rituals as it can help to focus and direct energy. Crystal quartz can be used to clear, cleanse, and purify the physical body, mind, and spirit.

It can also be used to create a bridge between the user’s physical body and their higher self. Additionally, crystal quartz is believed to promote mental clarity and increase creativity. So, using crystal quartz in your Elderberry Syrup preparation amplifies its healing power .

Elderberry Syrup Recipe

I’m a visual person, so if you are too, check out the Instagram Reel I created that shows me making this Elderberry Syrup Recipe.

1 cup dried elderberries
6 cups water
1/4 ounce ginger
Handful of cloves
1 1/2 cups raw honey
clear quartz crystal (tumbled or raw)

1. Bring berries and water to a boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
2. Strain berries and return liquid to the heat.
3. Add ginger and cloves. Simmer gently for another 45-60 minutes, or until 2-3 cups of liquid remains.
4. Remove liquid from heat, allow to cook to room temp.
5. Stir in raw honey, bottle, drop in your crystal quartz, label and refrigerate.

Suggested Use:
Take 2 teaspoons every 3 hours at first sign of virus symptoms. I make 3 or 4 batches to get us through the cold and flu season. Important: do not take Elderberry Syrup every day. This is to be taken when you feel under the weather only.

Where I Purchase High Quality Herbs

Using high quality herbs and materia medica is essential to the effectiveness of your herbal preparations. I purchase my herbs online, from either Etsy shops (because they are usually a small business) or from Mountain Rose Herbs because I know the plants are high quality and wild-crafted responsibly.
